Dear ONZ Member,
ONZ is launching a new group and project, the SIMG group. The board of ONZ has, for some time, recognised the needs of international doctors. The 2024 Medical Council Workforce Survey states that 41.1% of ophthalmologists were registered as International Medical Graduates (IMGs). Many of these specialists face a challenging path to full accreditation in Aotearoa NZ, with ongoing hurdles when practising.
ONZ will hold regular SIMG meetings to firstly assess the needs of IMG ophthalmologists and then provide support where possible. Dr Malcolm Carey will facilitate the first meeting on the 11th of August.
